Work on Fire Road Bicycle and Pedestrian Project Set to Begin

GLENS FALLS - The City of Glens Falls will begin construction work on the Fire Road Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements Project next week.  This project will construct a sidewalk along the north side of Kensington Road including flashing beacons at the crosswalk at Roosevelt Avenue. A shared-use path will be constructed along the east side of Jerome Avenue and south side of Fire Road. A raised crosswalk will be constructed at the entrance to the YMCA that will calm traffic along Fire Road. City leaders have worked with NYSDOT to secure funding to cover a majority of the project cost.

Site work including project layout and tree cutting will start on March 21 and needs to be completed prior to April 1 to protect the endangered Indiana and Northern Long Eared bat.  All other work will be completed between June 1 and August 1.  Work near the school will be delayed until after school is out for the summer. All local roadways will remain open during construction however motorists should expect delays during this time on Fire Road, Jerome Avenue and Kensington Road. Access will be maintained to all residences, the YMCA, and Kensington Road School during construction.
